A Sad Loss for Carmelo Anthony

By Dave Bruning

Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony suffered the toughest loss of his career. His sister Michelle passed away from what has been described as a pre-existing condition. She was 38 years old. Anthony took a 5 game leave of absence from the Nuggets to be with family and mourn their loss.

The loss of his sister is the latest development in a season of uncertainty for Anthony. The leave of absence provided Melo with a temporary respite from the non-stop speculation regarding his NBA future. The untimely death also reminds us all of the importance of family and what is truly important in our lives.

The consensus is Anthony is leaving Denver. If anything might convince Melo to stay, I think it could be the passing of his sister. He has had time to be with family and reflect on his future in peace. My time on the golf course affords me this same opportunity to reflect on my life and I often do some of my best thinking while enjoying a round of golf.

Anthony returns to action tonight in Denver against the Sacramento Kings. I expect the great fans of Denver to give him a warm, heartfelt and passionate welcome home. Denver has been his NBA home for 7 years. I believe this is the last opportunity to convince Melo to resign with Denver. Whatever he decides, it will be in the best interest of his family, reinforced by the sad loss of his sister.

  1. Hey this is Zach. I totally agree, I feel that with everything that has happened to Melo in the past month that he may realize what a great town Denver is. I also hope that with what the Rockies have been doing that he will also take a look and decide to stay and try to bring a championship to Denver, instead of teaming up and going some where else. Tonights game should be a good one, check it out in HD on channel 410 on DISH Network, I know Ill be watching it here at DISH.
